The Spongiologist’s Mantra 2022

An untitled poem about sponges (2022) commissioned by artist Isolde Venrooy, to accompany a work in .r.e.s.p.o.n.g.e. at De Fabriek, Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

Ever since Isolde and I first met during a week-long masterclass on walking in the south of the Netherlands, we’ve been ardent supports of each other’s work. I was honored to write a sensory and playful instructional text to complement an exhibition artwork titled Spongy Stories. The installation of naturally batik-dyed fabric, ceramics, and pandan sponge cakes encouraged visitors to imagine and embody the stories of the sponge.
